Chelsea captain Reece James has hailed the recent performances of Pedro Neto, highlighting the winger’s impressive adaptation to a new role in Enzo Maresca’s attack.

Despite Chelsea’s inconsistent form in 2025, certain players have stepped up, and James believes Neto has been crucial in recent matches. With limited striker options, the 24-year-old Portuguese international has filled in as a makeshift centre-forward and has impressed with his movement and attacking intent.

Speaking via Chelsea’s official website, James praised Neto’s commitment and selflessness:

“Everyone wants the best for the team and the club, so we will all do what we need to do. Pedro [Neto], for example, isn’t playing in his position at the moment but he’s doing an amazing job to help the team, and that’s the mindset.”

Neto himself has embraced the challenge of playing up front, and his performances have been among his best since arriving at Stamford Bridge. So far this season, he has registered five goals and seven assists in 31 appearances, with his goal now to reach double digits in both categories before the campaign ends.

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has also been impressed, stating that Neto’s role as a No.9 has been a better solution than playing Christopher Nkunku through the middle.

While Neto may not be a long-term striker solution, his versatility and attacking contributions are proving invaluable for Maresca’s Chelsea project.
