Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has stood by Filip Jorgensen after the goalkeeper was jeered by fans for playing short passes during the Blues’ emphatic 4-0 win over Southampton.
Despite the crowd’s frustration, Maresca remains firm in his philosophy, insisting that his players must adhere to the tactical approach he has implemented.
“My message to Filip was if you play a long ball, I will change you,” Maresca stated, underlining his commitment to building play from the back. “I am very happy. It is difficult for all the keepers when that happens but they just need to follow the plan.”
Jorgensen, who had a nervy start but grew into the game, made a crucial save as Chelsea settled into their rhythm. The 22-year-old Danish keeper has been tasked with executing Maresca’s possession-based system, which prioritises ball retention and playing out from the back.
While some fans remain skeptical of the approach, Maresca’s unwavering support for Jorgensen sends a clear message—Chelsea will continue to stick to their tactical blueprint, regardless of outside noise.
It’s a good thing as the system is aimed at possession of the Ball
