Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has reaffirmed his belief that Christopher Nkunku can be a key option in attack, despite the Frenchman’s struggles with injuries this season.
Nkunku, who endured a frustrating first half of the campaign due to fitness issues, has recently been reintegrated into the starting lineup.
Speaking about the forward’s role, Maresca stated:
“He didn’t play a lot in the first six months. In the last three games, he starts all the games. Hopefully from now on, he can help us in terms of numbers [output].”
Chelsea have faced inconsistencies in front of goal, with Nicolas Jackson often leading the line but lacking a consistent alternative. While some fans have debated whether Nkunku is best suited as an attacking midfielder or second striker, Maresca is confident in his ability to contribute as a central forward.
Nkunku’s versatility and technical ability make him a valuable asset in Maresca’s tactical setup. With Chelsea looking to improve their attacking output, the 26-year-old could play a crucial role in the club’s push for a stronger finish this season.
As the Blues prepare for a crucial run of fixtures, all eyes will be on Nkunku to see if he can repay Maresca’s faith and become the goal-scoring presence Chelsea desperately needs.
