Chelsea stormed back into the Premier League’s top four with a dominant 4-0 victory over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
The Blues opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Christopher Nkunku reacted quickest at the back post to turn in a flicked header from a corner. Pedro Neto then doubled the advantage in the 36th minute, finishing smartly to give Enzo Maresca’s side firm control of the game.
Just before halftime, Chelsea made it three, with Levi Colwill rising highest to head home from a pinpoint Pedro Neto cross in the 44th minute.
The second half saw Chelsea dominate possession, dictating play and keeping Southampton at bay. While chances came and went, the fourth goal eventually arrived in the 77th minute. The Blues launched a swift counter-attack from a Southampton corner, with young Tyrique George delivering a precise cross to Marc Cucurella, who finished clinically to cap off an emphatic win.
With this result, Chelsea leapfrogged into fourth place, sending a strong message in the race for Champions League qualification.
