Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has admitted his side must be more efficient at both ends of the pitch if they are to turn their form around, emphasising the need for better defending and sharper finishing.
Speaking ahead of the clash against Southampton, Maresca acknowledged the team’s struggles, particularly inside the penalty areas.
“Probably there are always more than one reason (for the form slump),” Maresca said. “In the last seven, eight, 10 games, the huge difference for me has been especially inside the box – both boxes. We always create chances so the difference has been inside the box. We need to be defensively more strong and more clinical when we get the chance.”
The Italian coach also hinted at tactical adjustments in response to Chelsea’s ongoing injury crisis in attack, suggesting Pedro Neto could be deployed as a No. 9.
With the Blues needing a turnaround, Maresca’s focus remains clear: sharpen up in both boxes and take their chances when they come.
