Chelsea have suffered yet another injury setback, with manager Enzo Maresca confirming that defender Trevoh Chalobah will be sidelined for up to 10 days after picking up a back injury against Aston Villa.
Chalobah, who had only recently returned to the starting lineup, was forced off during the match against Villa, adding to Chelsea’s growing list of absentees. The 24-year-old will now miss the Blues’ upcoming clash with Southampton on Monday, a fixture where Maresca’s side will be desperate to bounce back from recent struggles.
Speaking in his latest press conference, Maresca revealed the extent of Chalobah’s injury but was relieved that it was not a long-term issue.
“He had a check yesterday and he will be around one week to 10 days. On one side it is good because it is not an important injury but on the other side it is a shame because we lose another player at this moment with the amount of injuries that we had,” the Chelsea boss said.
Chalobah now joins a growing injury list at Stamford Bridge, which already includes Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, Marc Guiu, and Benoît Badiashile. His absence means that Tosin Adarabioyo, who replaced him at Villa Park, is expected to start against Southampton.
