Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has expressed his delight at being confirmed as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper by manager Enzo Maresca.

Maresca made the declaration last week, officially placing the Danish goalkeeper ahead of Robert Sanchez in the pecking order. Jorgensen revealed that he first heard about the news from a friend rather than directly from the club.

“I got it sent from a friend on WhatsApp,” he told Viaplay. “I don’t think much about it, I’m just trying to do my best to play this weekend.”

The 22-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal last summer, acknowledged that he was prepared to wait for his opportunity upon arriving at Stamford Bridge.

“When I switched here, I knew I shouldn’t start playing in the Premier League. It was fair to me, I understood it. Rob (Robert Sanchez) had been here longer than me.”

Jorgensen has started four matches for Chelsea this season and is pleased with his performances so far.

“I’ve been happy about my four matches so far. I hope there will be many more.”

With Maresca now backing him as Chelsea’s No.1, Jorgensen will be eager to cement his position and help the team push for success in the remainder of the campaign.
