Juventus have confirmed that on-loan Chelsea defender Renato Veiga is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a leg injury during their Champions League play-off against PSV Eindhoven.
The 21-year-old was forced off early in the first half of Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat, with Juventus ultimately losing 4-3 on aggregate.
A statement released by the Italian club on Thursday confirmed the nature of Veiga’s injury:
“Renato Veiga, who came off during the first half of the match against PSV Eindhoven, underwent diagnostic tests.
“The examinations revealed an injury to the tendon of the plantaris gracilis in his right leg.”
Since joining Juventus on loan from Chelsea in January, Veiga had become a key player, starting all five of the club’s matches in February. His absence will be a setback for Massimiliano Allegri’s side as they continue their domestic and European campaigns.
