Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot has raised concerns over the club’s heavy dependence on Cole Palmer, emphasising that other players need to contribute more in attack.
“You have to remember, in every team, when you focus on one individual that is that good, you need some other players to create danger,” Melchiot explained.
The former Dutch international believes Chelsea’s attacking struggles stem from relying too much on Palmer to carry the team offensively, rather than developing a more balanced approach.
“It looks like they’ve put the problem at him and let him fix everything. I think that is where the biggest problem is at the moment,” he added.
Palmer has been Chelsea’s standout performer in an otherwise inconsistent campaign, registering 14 goals and 6 assists in 28 matches. His influence has been crucial, but Melchiot’s comments highlight a growing issue—the lack of consistent contributions from the rest of the squad.
