Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has criticised the mentality of the current squad, expressing frustration over their poor performances since December.
Mikel, who won multiple trophies during his time at Stamford Bridge, emphasised the importance of the winter period in the title race and slammed Chelsea’s inability to step up when it mattered.
“December is not a f*ing time to drink red wine and have turkey. You can enjoy your Christmas, but we knew back then that this is the test when you need to win the Premier League.”
Chelsea’s struggles post-Christmas have been a major talking point, with Enzo Maresca’s side winning just two of their last ten games in all competitions. Mikel did not hold back in his criticism, labelling their form a major disappointment.
“It’s not a holiday period. It’s never a holiday period. So to win 2 out of 10 since then? It’s a huge, huge disappointment. I just hope we find our way back.”
The former Chelsea star’s comments reflect the frustration among fans, as the Blues continue to struggle for consistency in a season that has seen them fall short of expectations.
