Chelsea endured a frustrating night at the Amex Stadium as Brighton secured a convincing victory, with Jadon Sancho coming under fire for his role in the defeat.
Former Liverpool defender and pundit Jamie Carragher did not hold back in his assessment, particularly blaming Sancho for Brighton’s third goal, scored by Yankuba Minteh.
Carragher, speaking in his commentary role, was critical of the winger’s defensive awareness in the build-up to the goal.
“Just see Sancho with Minteh at the top of your picture, the one-two and just watch Sancho,” he said.
“I mean, where’s he going?! Minteh has the potential to be a real star, but the intensity on that side from (Marc) Cucurella and Sancho was awful.”
Sancho, who has struggled to find consistency since his arrival at Chelsea, was caught out of position, allowing Brighton to capitalise on the right flank. Minteh’s goal added to an already disappointing performance from the Blues, leading Carragher to emphasise the severity of the defeat.
“This is a bad, bad night for Enzo Maresca and Chelsea,” Carragher concluded.
The result further compounds Chelsea’s struggles this season, as Enzo Maresca continues to search for solutions in a side that has yet to find rhythm under his management. With defensive lapses proving costly, the scrutiny on individual performances—including Sancho’s—will only intensify.
