Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca did not mince words following his team’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton, branding it the worst performance under his tenure. The loss at the Amex Stadium was a significant blow to the Blues, who had the opportunity to increase the gap in the top four race, but instead delivered a lacklustre display.

“I feel pressure always, not only now. It was the worst performance since I arrived,” Maresca admitted after the match. His frustration was evident as he criticised his team’s lack of desire at a crucial stage of the season.

Chelsea entered the fixture knowing that a victory would put them within touching distance of third place, yet they failed to rise to the occasion.

“In the moment we are, 14 games to go before tonight’s game, you can go one point from third. To come here and play in the way we played, not on the ball but in terms of desire we need to show more,” Maresca emphasised.

The Italian coach acknowledged the urgency of the situation, making it clear that such performances are unacceptable, particularly with so much still to play for. “It’s not the right performance that we can offer, especially in this moment of the season. But now is the moment we need to stick together, and go ahead and try to finish in the best way,” he added.

With Chelsea’s inconsistency continuing to haunt them, Maresca’s frustration is justified. The defeat to Brighton raises further questions about the team’s mentality and ability to deliver when it matters most. With key fixtures ahead, the Blues must regroup quickly if they are to salvage their season.
