Chelsea’s struggles under Enzo Maresca continue, with back-to-back defeats against Brighton leaving fans frustrated. However, while criticism of the Italian coach is growing, some supporters believe he is not the real issue at Stamford Bridge.
One fan, ExpectedChelsea, took to social media to argue that Maresca is not the root of Chelsea’s problems and that frustration should be aimed higher up the club’s hierarchy.
“Getting angry at Maresca is stupid – just like Poch, he’s right around average. Not too great, not rubbish. Any manager who impacts us positively will not work with this hierarchy, and it is very possible to have a manager tank us.”
The fan pointed the blame at Chelsea’s decision-makers, arguing that the club’s leadership is deterring elite coaches and players:
“Serious players and coaches want nothing to do with Winstanley, Stewart, Shields, and Eghbali. They don’t want to be pawns who are told what to do.”
According to the supporter, the club’s ownership, Clearlake Capital, may even be fostering an environment of indifference among fans:
“What Clearlake want, perhaps, is indifference and apathy. They want fans – online and in the stadium – to stop caring so that they can continue dismembering the club.”
The fan urged fellow supporters to focus their frustrations on Chelsea’s structure rather than Maresca: “If you really want change, direct your energy at the right people. Maresca is the easy target and the wrong one.”
Finally, ExpectedChelsea described Maresca as merely a compliant figure within the club’s corporate system:
“Maresca is a good employee in Chelsea’s corporate structure. He’s competent, fulfills his superiors’ orders, upholds his company’s image, and does not lash out when he’s not set up to succeed. In return, he gets a cushy gig. He is nowhere near a problem – his superiors are.”
While Maresca is under pressure, this perspective highlights a broader issue at Chelsea, suggesting that the club’s ownership and leadership structure may be the real cause of the ongoing instability.
