John Obi Mikel has urged Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca to consider benching Nicolas Jackson in favour of Christopher Nkunku, following the coach’s bold decision to drop goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

“Maresca has been bold enough to drop Sanchez,” Mikel stated. “I think he should do that also with Nicolas Jackson. Give him a break, take him out of the firing line, put him on the bench, start Christopher Nkunku and see what he does.”

The former Chelsea midfielder was critical of the club’s transfer strategy, expressing concerns over their squad depth and ability to secure a top-four finish.

“Jackson is not good enough, that’s another window gone where the club have not made the signings we think we need to finish top four,” he added.

Jackson has registered 9 goals and 5 assists in 23 matches for Chelsea this season, but his inconsistency in front of goal has led to growing calls for Nkunku to be given more opportunities.
