Pedro Neto’s equaliser for Wolves against West Ham on Monday sparked debate after replays suggested a potential offside in the build-up.
The controversy arose when Marc Guiu appeared to attempt a header before the ball reached Marc Cucurella, who was in an offside position when he assisted Enzo Fernández’s shot. The ball then deflected into Neto’s path, allowing him to score.
A lengthy VAR review followed, but Premier League officials ruled that there was “no factual evidence” that Guiu had made contact with the ball, meaning no offside offence was committed.
Chelsea responded swiftly, regaining the lead just 10 minutes later when Cole Palmer’s deflected shot, later credited as an Aaron Wan-Bissaka own goal, secured a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.
