Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has acknowledged that ongoing transfer rumours have impacted his squad’s focus as the January window nears its end.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming fixture, Maresca admitted that speculation surrounding players has been a challenge for his team, as well as for other clubs.
“At the moment, we have many noises around players, but it’s not just for us. I think if you ask Graham [Potter, West Ham boss], he’s exactly the same. I don’t know if they have some noises about players, but overall it’s the same situation for all the clubs and the managers. The good thing is that Monday is the last day,” Maresca stated.
When asked if the constant speculation has affected his squad, the Chelsea manager was clear in his response.
“100%. But not only us, other teams, because they are human beings. Even if they say they are professional and focused, if they are talking about you and different clubs, probably the focus is not 100%,” he admitted.
With the transfer deadline looming, Maresca will be hoping his squad can remain focused as Chelsea continue their push for a strong second half of the season.
