Juventus have secured the loan signing of Renato Veiga from Chelsea, with agent Gaetano Montalbano describing the move as a major coup.
Veiga was frustrated with his lack of playing time at Chelsea, will stay in Turin until the end of the season. He was drawn to Juventus largely due to manager Thiago Motta’s playing philosophy, his agent has revealed.
“The choice of Juventus was made in a thorough and careful manner, he strongly wanted to go there preferring it to other very big clubs around Europe,” Montalbano told TMW. “It was strongly desired by the management, in agreement with the coach (Thiago Motta) who prefers players with technical qualities and vision of the game.”
The 21-year-old’s versatility was a key factor in Juventus’ pursuit, with Montalbano highlighting his adaptability.
“Renato is a central defender, but he can also play as a full-back and midfielder. He has great versatility and structure, he is physically strong but also has technique and speed in the short term.”
Veiga’s composure in possession is another standout quality.
“He knows how to play, if I have to say a strong point, I would indicate this: he starts from the bottom without fear, he sets up, he starts the game.”
The agent emphasised the importance of regular playing time for Veiga’s development, given his already extensive football experience across Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, and England.
He said: “He has to play a lot, so he can continue to grow: he is in great evolution, he has already made moves from Portugal to Switzerland with Basel and in the Bundesliga, up to the Premier League and international cups. At 21 years old he already has an important football background.”
With Veiga now under Motta’s guidance, Juventus will hope to maximise his potential before the end of the season, while Chelsea monitor his progress closely.
