Chelsea fullback Marc Cucurella made an emotional return to Getafe on Monday, visiting his former club a day after their victory against Real Sociedad. The Spaniard, who played for Getafe from 2019 to 2021, reflected on his time at the club and expressed gratitude to those who played a key role in his development.

Speaking to local reporters, Cucurella said:

“They were two very good seasons. I enjoyed it a lot. I had the opportunity to play in Europe for the first time, and it is a joy to be able to come back here and see so many familiar faces.”

Cucurella reserved special praise for José Bordalás, the manager who brought him to Getafe and helped him grow as a player.

“He insisted a lot on me coming, he made me improve a lot. The opportunity to play in the Premier [League] was thanks to his work and what I learned with him. I am very grateful.”

He also acknowledged the contributions of Getafe president Ángel Torres, who has been a pillar of the club’s stability.

“The president has been doing a great job for many years. I hope he continues like this. I am very happy to see Getafe’s games, to see the people who have had so much affection for me.”

Despite Getafe facing challenges this season, Cucurella expressed his confidence in the team’s resilience.

“I know that this year is being a bit of a difficult season, but I have a lot of confidence in the team and that it will get through it.”

Cucurella’s visit was a touching reminder of his connection to Getafe, where he left a lasting impression and launched his career to new heights, eventually earning a move to Brighton and then Chelsea in the Premier League.
