Chelsea fans have directed their frustration at Noni Madueke after his defensive error allowed Josko Gvardiol to equalise for Manchester City in their 3-1 victory over the Blues.

Despite an early lead, Chelsea conceded just before halftime when Gvardiol tapped in a rebound from Matheus Nunes’ shot. The Croatian defender appeared to be in an offside position, but replays revealed that Madueke had kept him onside. The winger also failed to track Gvardiol’s run effectively, leaving fans furious.

One supporter vented his frustration on social media, saying, “How can Madueke both offer no defensive cover and play an entire team onside in the same game? Get him off at HT – complete liability in this form.”

Another fan added, “Madueke played City onside to mark Gvardiol and he still let Gvardiol outrun him and score???”

Others criticised Madueke’s awareness, with one stating, “Noni Madueke playing everyone on. Didn’t once check to see where the line was…”

Another exasperated fan simply exclaimed, “WHAT IS THIS DEFENSIVE LINE???? Madueke ffs.”

Although Madueke had scored Chelsea’s opener earlier in the game, his lacklustre defensive contribution in the first half left many fans calling for him to be subbed off. His performance reflects Chelsea’s ongoing struggle with balance and discipline in key moments this season.
