Enzo Maresca expressed his frustration over Chelsea’s missed opportunity to double their advantage against Manchester City in a tightly contested Premier League clash. Despite taking an early lead, the Blues were unable to capitalise on a critical moment and eventually succumbed to a 3-1 defeat.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Maresca reflected on the team’s performance and the pivotal chance that could have swung the game in Chelsea’s favor.
“We started exactly the way we prepared. We could have scored a second one,” the Chelsea manager said. “I’m completely sure if we scored the second one, the game completely changes.”
The key moment came just 10 minutes into the match when Chelsea were leading 1-0. Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson found themselves in a two-on-one situation with City goalkeeper Ederson. However, Palmer’s overhit pass to Jackson squandered the opportunity, allowing the defending champions to stay in the game.
Commenting on the team’s approach, Maresca praised Chelsea’s efforts in dealing with Manchester City’s high pressing. “The high pressing, you have to be brave in these games. I think we dealt for most parts of the game quite well,” he added.
Chelsea ultimately paid the price for their missed chances as Manchester City mounted a comeback to claim all three points, leaving Maresca and his side to rue what could have been a turning point in the game.
