Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca for the impressive transformation he has overseen at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking ahead of City’s clash with Chelsea, Guardiola reflected on Maresca’s influence, acknowledging his former assistant’s positive work.
“He’s changed Chelsea a lot,” Guardiola said during his pre-match press conference.
Reflecting on their pre-season encounter in the United States, Guardiola noted the significant changes Maresca has brought to Chelsea’s style of play.
“I think we recognised the team from day one when we played in the pre-season in the United States. Many things, I start to see which we spoke about many times in the last years together. Really good,” he stated.
Guardiola also expressed personal satisfaction at seeing his former colleague thrive in his new role at Chelsea.
“I’m very pleased, I was a lucky man to work with him in the last years. Everything happened with him and his family, if he’s fine, I am fine. I’m happy for him,” Guardiola declared.
With the Blues making steady progress under Maresca’s guidance, Saturday’s showdown against the reigning Premier League champions promises to be an intriguing tactical battle between mentor and protégé.
