Chelsea legend Roberto Di Matteo has thrown his support behind Nicolas Jackson, backing the striker to hit 20 goals this season while suggesting the club could benefit from signing another forward with a different skillset.
Speaking about Jackson’s progress, Di Matteo praised the Senegalese international for his work ethic and unselfish style of play.
Despite facing criticism last season, Jackson has already netted nine league goals this campaign, showing signs of his potential.
“I like Jackson,” Di Matteo said. “I can see why managers like him as well. This season he has scored quite a few goals. He has had some harsh criticism last season. He is a young player, most of them are young, and it takes a bit of time to get used to the Premier League and English football.”
While impressed with Jackson’s development, Di Matteo suggested Chelsea might benefit from adding another forward with a contrasting style to their attack.
“Do they need another No.9? Maybe a different kind of player to Jackson as an option,” Di Matteo stated.
He also highlighted Spanish wonderkid Marc Guiu as an exciting prospect for the future, hinting at Chelsea’s potential long-term options.
“There is a really good prospect in the wings, the Spanish player [Marc Guiu], he looks very good,” Di Matteo added.
