Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has spoken highly of his relationship with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola ahead of their Premier League clash this weekend.
Maresca, who worked under Guardiola during his time at City, expressed deep gratitude and admiration for both his former club and its iconic manager.
Reflecting on his bond with Guardiola and City, Maresca said:
“My contact with him, the club, is fantastic. I will always be thankful to Manchester City. The reason why is because they called me back after an Italian club sacked me after two or three months. We have a fantastic relationship in terms of friendship.”
Maresca acknowledged the pressures Guardiola faces as a manager and expressed his support during what has been a challenging week for City following their defeat to PSG in the Champions League:
“Pep is strong enough in this kind of thing. For sure, like any human being, he needs support in this moment.”
Maresca’s comments underline the mutual respect between the two managers and his appreciation for the opportunity Manchester City gave him to rebuild his career. As they prepare to face off on Saturday night, Maresca’s admiration for his former mentor remains evident.
