Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly keen to offload left-back Ben Chilwell during the January transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund emerging as a potential destination.
Chilwell has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and has been informed that he is not part of Chelsea’s long-term plans.
Borussia Dortmund, who recently missed out on signing Chilwell’s teammate Renato Veiga—who’s set for a loan move at Juventus—are exploring the possibility of signing the England international.
However, Chilwell’s £190,000-a-week wages pose a significant hurdle. According to Football Insider, Chelsea may need to subsidize part of his salary, mirroring their arrangement with Raheem Sterling’s move to Arsenal.
This potential transfer comes as Veiga, who joined Chelsea just six months ago, left on loan to Juventus in search of regular first-team football. Chilwell’s exit could free up space and finances for Chelsea as Maresca continues reshaping the squad.
