Chelsea are closely monitoring the severity of Romeo Lavia’s latest injury, which could significantly impact their midfield options.

Journalist Matt Law reports that the club is considering recalling one of their loaned players, Andrey Santos or Lesley Ugochukwu, to address the growing injury concerns.

While manager Enzo Maresca had previously ruled out recalling players on loan, Chelsea’s situation has become increasingly urgent as the January transfer window nears its end. The injuries to Lavia and Enzo Fernandez have left the Blues light in midfield, prompting the club to reassess its stance on loan recalls.

Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu have both impressed during their loan spells, making them viable options for a mid-season return. Santos has been showcasing his talent abroad, while Ugochukwu’s form at Southampton has drawn praise. A decision to recall either player could provide Chelsea with much-needed depth and stability in the middle of the park.

No final decision has been made yet, as Chelsea are waiting for further updates on Lavia’s condition. However, with time running out before the transfer window shuts, the club is under pressure to act quickly to reinforce their midfield and maintain momentum for the rest of the season.
