Wolves defender Matt Doherty was left frustrated by his team’s performance in their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, admitting they were never fully in the contest.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Doherty expressed his disappointment, acknowledging Chelsea’s quality but highlighting his team’s lack of consistency:
“Everyone knows about Chelsea’s quality. For me, it kind of felt like we weren’t at the races at the start.”
Although Wolves showed brief moments of promise during the game, Doherty admitted they were unable to sustain that level:
“There were periods in the game where we were pressing well and looked like we might do something, but not for long enough.”
Doherty also stressed the importance of maintaining focus throughout the entire match in the Premier League:
“Against every team in the Premier League you have to be on it for 90 minutes, and I just thought tonight there were too many times where we weren’t on it.”
Despite Doherty’s goal, Wolves could not prevent Chelsea from securing a dominant victory, leaving the defender to reflect on a disappointing outing for his side.
