Chelsea winger Noni Madueke was met with boos from Wolverhampton fans as his name was read out before the Blues’ clash with Wolves. The reaction, though surprising to some, had clear roots in past encounters and social media drama.

“Loud cheers for Chalobah as his name is read out here at Chelsea. Madueke booed by Wolves fans… wonder why?” The Athletic’s Simon Johnson tweeted moments before kickoff.

The reason became obvious when looking back at the last time Chelsea faced Wolves on Matchday 2 of the 2024/25 Premier League season. On that occasion, Madueke delivered a stunning hat-trick, single-handedly dismantling the opposition. His performance clearly left a mark on Wolves supporters.

Adding to the tension, Madueke once shared a controversial Instagram Story referring to Wolverhampton, stating, “Everything about this place is shit.” The remark was widely criticised by Wolves fans and likely contributed to the frosty reception.

Interestingly, Madueke has scored just five Premier League goals this season, with three of those coming in that dominant display against Wolves. It’s safe to say that his previous heroics and controversial comment have kept him in the spotlight whenever Chelsea meets Wolves.
