Renato Veiga’s absence from Chelsea’s matchday squad against Wolves sparked speculation about a potential move away from the club.
However, head coach Enzo Maresca was quick to dismiss any transfer-related reasons for the omission, insisting it was purely tactical.
When asked if the 21-year-old Portuguese defender’s absence was due to the swirling transfer rumours, Maresca clarified:
“No, no, no. It’s because of a technical decision.”
The Chelsea boss explained his choice to leave Veiga out of the squad by highlighting the options he preferred for the game: “We prefer, for instance, Ty [Tyrique George] or Jadon [Sancho] as a winger on the bench if we need to change both, and then we changed both. The reason why was just for that.”
With Veiga heavily linked to a potential transfer away from Stamford Bridge, Maresca’s comments may help to calm speculation, emphasising that his exclusion was strictly a tactical move rather than an indication of an imminent exit.
