TalkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy has praised Marc Cucurella for his remarkable improvement at Chelsea, reflecting on the Spaniard’s journey from a shaky start to becoming one of the team’s top performers.
Cucurella, 26, joined Chelsea from Brighton in a £60m deal in 2022 but initially struggled to adapt. Murphy commented on the left-back’s transformation, telling talkSPORT:
“He’s really good. He’s super fit, so he gets up and down all day. Technically very good. He likes defending; not all full-backs do. His end product is good. He’s got a nice all-round game.”
Murphy acknowledged Cucurella’s early challenges at Stamford Bridge, saying:
“I think the initial negativity around him was because he’d walked into an environment that wasn’t particularly settled; he was looking a bit nervous and apprehensive, which lots of Chelsea players did when they got there. What we all like to do is judge too quickly.”
Now a consistent performer, Cucurella has proven himself at Chelsea, with Troy Deeney adding that the left-back is exceeding expectations—a testament to his growth at a big club.
