Real Madrid eye surprise Reece James loan deal

Real Madrid have reignited their interest in Chelsea captain Reece James as they look to bolster their options at right-back this January.

With Dani Carvajal sidelined through injury and Liverpool unwilling to part with top target Trent Alexander-Arnold during the current transfer window, the Spanish giants are exploring alternative solutions.

According to AS, Real Madrid are considering a loan move for James, who has recently returned to form following an injury layoff. The 25-year-old reminded everyone of his quality earlier this week, scoring a spectacular free-kick to secure a 2-2 draw for Chelsea against Bournemouth.

While James has been a key figure at Chelsea, Real Madrid’s preference for a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer could complicate negotiations. Chelsea may be reluctant to part with their captain, even temporarily, given his importance to the squad and leadership on the pitch.

With Alexander-Arnold’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, Real Madrid appear willing to wait for their priority target but remain keen on addressing their defensive needs in the short term. Whether Chelsea will entertain the idea of James leaving Stamford Bridge midseason remains to be seen.
