Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has described managing the club during the January transfer window as a “disaster,” citing the unsettling impact transfer speculation is having on his squad.

The Italian, whose team has slipped out of the Premier League’s top four following a five-game winless streak, expressed frustration at the numerous transfer rumors surrounding key players. Borussia Dortmund are reportedly targeting Carney Chukwuemeka and Renato Veiga, while Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo, Ben Chilwell, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have also been linked with potential exits. Bayern Munich is said to be pursuing Chelsea’s star forward Christopher Nkunku.

At the same time, Chelsea are actively seeking reinforcements in the market, particularly in wide attacking areas. The Blues have made enquiries about Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, and Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.

Speaking about the January window, Maresca did not hold back:

“A disaster. It is normal that you judge the results because the business is a business where you judge the results. But I’m happy with the performances, I’m happy because we create and we play. On the pitch, I would like to win more games but I’m OK. Off the pitch it is a disaster because of so many noises that don’t help us.”

Maresca emphasized the challenges managers face during the transfer window, as players can be easily distracted by rumors:

“It’s not just for us, it’s for every club and every manager. In this moment, whenever there is any noise about any player, it is not easy because even if you think the player can be focused on us, in the end he is a human being. If there is any noise about another club then he is probably not focused 100%.”

The Chelsea boss acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining focus in a squad riddled with transfer speculation but stressed the importance of adapting to these circumstances.

Chelsea fans will hope that the team can overcome these distractions and regain their form as the season progresses. With rumors swirling and performances under scrutiny, Maresca faces a challenging task to keep the Blues on track.
