Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has shed light on the club’s decision to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, following injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile.
Despite leaving Chalobah out of the pre-season squad last summer, Maresca now sees him as a valuable option in Chelsea’s defensive setup.
“The process is quite an easy process in terms of we have a few injuries, so we were looking for solutions,” Maresca explained.
“We thought probably the best solution was to call back Trev—first of all because we know him very well and second because we are sure he can help us, so we decided for that solution.”
Chalobah’s familiarity with the club played a significant role in the decision, with Maresca adding:
“He knows the house (training ground) better than me! First of all, he was very happy. I can see his face; I had a chat with him a few days ago and I had a chat with him this morning, and you can see in his eyes he is really happy, and we are happy he’s here.”
Although doubts remain about Chalobah’s long-term role at Chelsea, the 24-year-old now has an opportunity to prove his worth and play meaningful minutes during a crucial period for the team.
