Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his frustration with the January transfer window, calling it “a disaster” due to the ongoing speculation surrounding his players.

The Blues boss believes the rumours and uncertainty have impacted the focus of his squad, leading to underwhelming performances on the pitch.

“On the pitch, for sure I would like to win more games, but I’m OK,” Maresca admitted.

“Off the pitch, it’s a disaster because [there are] so many noises that I don’t think help us, but I don’t think they help any club.”

Chelsea have faced a flurry of transfer-related distractions this month, with several players linked to potential moves. Defender Renato Veiga has been rumoured to be in talks with Borussia Dortmund, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s future has also been a subject of speculation.

Additionally, the club has reportedly informed Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Cesare Casadei that they are free to find new clubs.

Maresca emphasised the psychological toll that transfer rumours can have on players, saying, “When there is any noise about some player, it’s not easy, because even if you think the player can be focused on us, in the end, they are human beings. So if there is any noise about some different clubs, probably [the player] is not focused 100 percent, so it doesn’t help.”

The Blues have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, with Maresca suggesting the off-pitch distractions have played a significant role. As the transfer window enters its final stages, the manager will be hoping for a swift resolution to the uncertainty surrounding his squad.
