Chelsea’s decision to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace in January does not indicate a long-term future at Stamford Bridge, according to The Athletic.
The 25-year-old defender is still expected to be sold in the summer, despite his determination to fight for a place in the squad.
The club’s evaluation of Chalobah remains unchanged, as he is considered lower in the pecking order among Chelsea’s centre-backs. With Josh Acheampong now integrated into the first-team setup and signed to a long-term deal, Chelsea does not view Chalobah’s initial loan move as a mistake.
However, the decision to recall him was deemed necessary due to injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile. This provides Chalobah with an opportunity to play meaningful minutes in the Premier League and potentially win over manager Enzo Maresca, as he has done with former Chelsea coaches like Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino.
While his future at Chelsea remains uncertain, Chalobah’s return offers him a chance to make an impact during a challenging period for the Blues.
