After Chelsea’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, captain Reece James expressed frustration over missed opportunities that could have secured a crucial win for the Blues.
Chelsea totally bossed the game in the first-half, and could easily have been 3-0 up by half-time, but ended up needing a late Reece James goal to snatch a point.
“There are positives to take away from the game, going behind to come back and take a point, but there are negatives in not taking chances,” James admitted in his post-match interview.
He continued, “(It’s) mixed emotions. To be honest, I don’t (feel a draw was the fair result). We had a few clear-cut chances we should have taken in the first half and put the game to bed.”
James didn’t hold back in highlighting the consequences of missed opportunities: “That can come back to bite you in the arse. That’s across football globally, if you don’t take chances it could come back and hurt you.”
Despite coming on as a substitute in the 55th minute, James made a decisive impact, rescuing a point for Chelsea with a stunning free-kick in the 95th minute.
While his heroics ensured Chelsea avoided defeat, the result leaves the team on a precarious footing in the Premier League standings, with their top-four hopes hanging in the balance.
