Chelsea academy talent Josh Acheampong has the opportunity to cement his place in the first team and potentially save the club from splashing out on a big-money defender as Chelsea prepare to face Bournemouth tonight.

Enzo Maresca is expected to revert to a full-strength lineup, bringing back key players like Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, and Cole Palmer, who were rested during the FA Cup victory over Morecambe. However, Acheampong, who was also rested at the weekend, is tipped to start again following his impressive Premier League debut against Crystal Palace.

Maresca praised the youngster, calling him Chelsea’s best player in the 1-1 draw, while pundit Paul Merson described him as “amazing.”

Regarded as a “world-class” prospect by the club, Acheampong has the chance to prove he can solve Chelsea’s defensive concerns alongside Levi Colwill.

With Chelsea winless in four league games, Acheampong’s performance against Bournemouth could not only help turn Chelsea’s form around but also save the club millions in the transfer market.
