Christopher Nkunku’s time at Chelsea, which began with high expectations following his £52 million move, may be nearing an end. Injuries and a lack of opportunities in his preferred No.10 role have left the Frenchman frustrated, with Bayern Munich reportedly interested in securing his services.

Nkunku impressed during the 2023 pre-season but suffered a devastating injury on a subpar pitch that delayed his competitive debut. Since returning, he has managed to contribute 13 goals this season but has struggled to displace Cole Palmer, who has cemented himself as the team’s creative heartbeat.

Palmer’s rise has limited Nkunku’s chances in his favored position, forcing him into less impactful roles. With Bayern monitoring the situation and Chelsea reportedly open to negotiations, the prospect of Nkunku leaving Stamford Bridge is growing.

Should he depart, it would be a bittersweet conclusion to a tenure that promised much but was derailed by misfortune and competition.
