Chelsea’s plan to re-sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi could face significant obstacles this January, despite the club’s urgent need for defensive reinforcements following injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace prefers a straight cash deal for Guehi rather than Chelsea’s proposed swap involving Trevoh Chalobah heading to Selhurst Park.

Furthermore, doubts remain about Palace’s ability to cover Chalobah’s salary, even if a loan move is considered.

Guehi, who has a contract expiring next summer, remains on Chelsea’s shortlist, but these complications may force the Blues to rethink their strategy.

Meanwhile, Chelsea retains the option to recall Chalobah to address their defensive concerns directly.
