In an inspiring development for Chelsea’s youth system, academy graduates Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George have officially been promoted to the first-team squad.

The move represents a significant milestone in their young careers and highlights the continued success of Chelsea’s academy in producing top talents.

Chelsea U21 head coach Filipe Coelho, who worked closely with the duo during their time in the academy, expressed his pride in their achievement and the recognition it brings to the developmental system.

Speaking to the official Chelsea website, Coelho said:

“With Josh and Tyrique moving to the building across the road, it’s another great achievement. Working in developmental football, that’s the end goal! We want our players to progress and develop into great players who can have brilliant professional careers. I am so pleased with them.”

The promotion of Acheampong and George is a testament to their dedication and the hard work of the academy staff. Coelho emphasised the importance of the team’s efforts and the recognition they have garnered through consistent performances.

“It’s flattering in some ways as well because it shows that our hard work is being recognised. People are acknowledging the performances the team has been showing, as well as the individuals shining on the pitch. We want this to happen, and that’s exactly what has happened!”

Coelho also highlighted the work ethic of Acheampong and George, praising their commitment to reaching this stage and urging them to maintain that level of determination as they embark on their first-team journey.

“The boys have worked exceptionally hard for this moment since they started playing football. They also know the hard work doesn’t stop now, just because they’ve made the move. In some ways, it’s only just begun. I know they will give everything they have each day to show they deserve to be in that position, just as they did in the Academy.”
