Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino took part in his first training session with Chelsea on Monday, January 6, marking the beginning of his journey with the senior squad.
The 20-year-old was recalled earlier this month from his loan spell at Boca Juniors and was seen wearing Chelsea’s training kit for the first time.
Anselmino was accompanied by his agent, Diego Merino, at Cobham, sparking speculation about his potential role under Enzo Maresca. With Chelsea currently short on options in the centre-back position, there is growing belief that the young defender could be fast-tracked into the senior team.
During his time at Boca Juniors, Anselmino showcased his versatility, making 23 appearances and contributing five goal involvements (two goals, three assists). His ability to also play as a defensive midfielder adds further depth to Chelsea’s options.
Enzo Maresca may look to ease the youngster into competitive action, with cup competitions offering a potential platform for Anselmino to make his debut. As Chelsea navigate their injury issues, Anselmino’s presence could prove to be a timely boost.
