Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has shared glowing remarks about midfielder Cesare Casadei, despite his limited involvement this season.

The Italian coach, who worked with Casadei during a loan spell at Leicester City last season, highlighted the player’s progress and versatility after his performances in European competitions.

Following a victory over Gent, Maresca said: “Cesare played very good against Barrow and even better tonight. I am very happy with the way he is playing. I had Cesare last year and he was playing a little bit in a different position.”

Maresca has now revealed that Casadei has been adapted to a holding midfield role this season, explaining: “This year, we are using him like a holding midfielder. The reason why is because I think we go in the direction where the middle you need physical players. Cesare is very big, physically strong and helps us when we want to press.”

He also praised Casadei’s improvement in possession: “On the ball, he is improving a lot. Tonight he played one touch, so we are very happy. For him, it’s the same as the rest; many things he can do better but he is in the right direction.”

However, despite his evident potential, Casadei has yet to gain Maresca’s full trust for regular Premier League action. If the 20-year-old midfielder seeks consistent playing time, a move away from Stamford Bridge could be on the horizon.
