Carney Chukwuemeka’s future at Chelsea appears increasingly uncertain under manager Enzo Maresca.
Despite avoiding the injuries that plagued his previous season, the young midfielder has struggled for game time, starting only one match – a UEFA Conference League fixture against Astana.
Reports suggest that Maresca has reservations about Chukwuemeka’s progress in training, contributing to his limited involvement and exclusion from matchday squads. As a result, Chelsea is open to letting the 20-year-old leave during the January transfer window. However, the club has reportedly restricted his loan destination to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.
Strasbourg, under BlueCo ownership, has become a favoured developmental ground for Chelsea loanees. Yet, for this move to materialise, one of Andrey Santos, Caleb Wiley, or Djordje Petrovic must be recalled from Strasbourg to accommodate Chukwuemeka.
The midfielder’s potential move aligns with Chelsea’s broader January plans, which are expected to prioritise player exits over new signings. While permanent transfers have been discussed, a loan spell at Strasbourg could offer Chukwuemeka a chance to revive his career and gain valuable playing time in a competitive environment.
