Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has urged his former club to prioritise signing a new striker in the January transfer window.

Speaking on his Obione Podcast, the Nigerian also expressed concerns about the club’s goalkeeping situation, describing it as a potential weak link.

Mikel stated emphatically: “We need another striker, I’ve said this so many times. Goalkeeper worries me.”

The Blues, under the stewardship of new manager Enzo Maresca, have had a promising season so far. Before back-to-back Premier League defeats to Fulham (2-1) and Ipswich Town (2-0) in late December, Chelsea enjoyed a nine-game unbeaten run. The west London club has also been in sensational form in Europe, maintaining a perfect record in the UEFA Europa Conference League with six wins in as many games.

Chelsea’s Offensive Transformation

Maresca’s tactical approach has seen a significant uptick in Chelsea’s attacking output. The Blues have netted 38 goals in the Premier League this season, making them the third-highest scorers behind Liverpool (45) and Tottenham Hotspur (41). In the Europa Conference League, they have been even more clinical, scoring 26 goals across six matches.

Key contributors to this offensive success include Nicolas Jackson leading the scoring charts for Chelsea. Jackson has recorded 12 goals and six assists in 21 appearances.
