Ipswich were awarded a very soft penalty in their 2-0 win over Chelsea.

The incident occurred in the 12th minute when goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen was judged to have fouled Liam Delap in the Chelsea penalty area. Delap scored the ensuing kick, even though Jorgensen dived in the right reaction.

For Chelsea fans, it was a very soft penalty.

Addressing the penalty decision that impacted the result of the game, Enzo Maresca said: “They said it’s a bit soft, but we have to accept it’s a penalty.”

The Premier League’s Match Centre has issued a statement defending the contentious penalty awarded to Ipswich Town during their clash with Chelsea.

The decision, made by referee John Brooks and upheld by VAR official Michael Oliver, has sparked heated debate among fans and pundits alike.

The Premier League’s statement, posted on the Match Centre’s official X account, read: “The referee’s call of penalty for a foul by Jorgensen on Delap was checked and confirmed by VAR, who deemed there was sufficient contact for a penalty.”
