Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has urged fans and teammates to maintain perspective following the Blues’ 2-0 loss to Ipswich Town.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Spaniard offered a balanced outlook on the team’s performance this season, acknowledging the positives while highlighting areas for improvement.

Cucurella admitted the team conceded two avoidable goals, which shifted the game’s momentum:

“We created a lot of chances. We conceded two easy goals and then we had to play a different game.”

The defender emphasised the importance of learning from mistakes without being overly critical:

“Sometimes we have good luck, sometimes not, it’s part of football but we have to take positives and watch and review clips where we can improve.”

Despite the disappointing result, Cucurella maintained that Chelsea’s progress this season should not be overlooked:

“When we win we are not the best but when we lose we are not the worst. We have to continue in this way and try to win the games.”

Cucurella acknowledged that Chelsea’s approach became disjointed after conceding the early goal:

“We conceded the early goal and we had to play more with passing and then the second one we lost our way a bit with mistakes. We need to play always in the same style and take our time but we rushed and made mistakes.”

He stressed the need for Chelsea to maintain their intensity and discipline across all matches:

“We need to play with the same intensity and desire. Sometimes we rush and rush to win but I think we have done well this first six months.”

Cucurella expressed optimism about the team’s potential to improve in the coming months, particularly with time to refine their strategies in January:

“In January we have time to improve, train hard and continue. Maybe we have been better than people expected apart from the last two games.”
