Former Chelsea assistant manager Jody Morris has weighed in on the club’s needs under Enzo Maresca, urging the Blues to prioritise signing an experienced central defender to solidify their title challenge.

“I think we need an experienced, world-class centre-half,” Morris said, emphasising the defensive area as the key to Chelsea’s improvement.

Contrary to speculation about Chelsea’s attacking options, Morris dismissed the idea of prioritising a striker:

“I don’t think we need a striker, I don’t think that’s where we’re struggling most at the minute.”

Highlighting the team’s defensive vulnerabilities, Morris added:

“We just need to shore up defensively.”

With Chelsea showing promise under Maresca, Morris believes a solid defensive addition could be the catalyst for a genuine title push this season.
