Chelsea winger and Ukraine international Mykhailo Mudryk has tested positive for doping, reportedly linked to a stem cell injection he received during a Ukrainian national team camp, according to Ukrainian journalist Ihor Burbas.
Burbas revealed that the injection, administered by Ukraine’s physiotherapist Ivan Porobiya, involved stem cells reportedly derived from a cow.
While stem cells are commonly used for cell regeneration, there is speculation that the cow may have contained meldonium, a substance banned under anti-doping regulations.
The journalist emphasised that this was the only unusual medical procedure Mudryk had undergone in the last 18 months.
In response, Chelsea issued a statement backing Mudryk, with the player vehemently denying any intentional wrongdoing:
“I have never knowingly taken any banned substances,” he insisted.
