Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has hailed Mohamed Salah as his Premier League Player of the Season so far but also highlighted Chelsea’s Cole Palmer as a standout performer, ranking him as a “close second.”
Speaking on his Five podcast, Ferdinand said: “I’d go Salah. I think Palmer and Saka are close seconds!”
The former England defender noted Salah’s impressive numbers this season with 16 goals and 11 assists, but he made a point of recognising Palmer’s exceptional impact at Chelsea.
Ferdinand’s guest, Owen Hargreaves, echoed the praise for Salah but also emphasised Palmer’s brilliance:
“I’m going to say Mo Salah, and I’ll say Cole Palmer a close second,” the former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder said.
Hargreaves highlighted Palmer’s contributions despite Chelsea not being at the top of the league, adding:
“To be the best player, you’ve got to be in the top team, within reason. I’d say Cole Palmer is just behind… Bukayo Saka.”
The conversation underscored Palmer’s meteoric rise since joining Chelsea, as he continues to impress with his creativity and consistency. While Salah’s dominance is undeniable, Palmer’s performances have sparked discussions about his potential as one of the league’s brightest talents.
