Alan Shearer has expressed confidence in Chelsea’s ability to secure a top-four finish this season under manager Enzo Maresca, despite their disappointing Boxing Day defeat to Fulham.

The Blues suffered a late 2-1 loss in a dramatic west London derby, but Shearer believes the team is on track for a successful campaign.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer said:

“When you look at where they are now, there is no doubt they would have taken it [at the start of the season].

“I still think they will finish in the top four, which will be a brilliant achievement for them, and I think they will win the Conference League also.

“They will [still] be really happy with the things that are happening at Stamford Bridge.”

Chelsea’s journey under Enzo Maresca has been marked by gradual progress, and Shearer’s remarks highlight the optimism surrounding the club’s long-term direction. Securing a Champions League spot and lifting the Conference League trophy would undoubtedly mark a successful season for the Blues, who are balancing domestic ambitions with European competition.
