Troy Deeney has singled out Levi Colwill for criticism following Chelsea’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Boxing Day, accusing the defender of laziness and lacking urgency in the game’s crucial moments.

Chelsea appeared on course for a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to Cole Palmer’s brilliant first-half strike. However, an equalizer from Harry Wilson and a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Rodrigo Muniz turned the game on its head, handing Fulham a stunning victory in the west London derby.

The result leaves Chelsea at risk of dropping to third place in the league if Arsenal beat Ipswich Town on Friday night, further compounding the disappointment for the Blues.

Deeney, analyzing the match on BBC Final Score, was particularly critical of Colwill’s role in the decisive moment. Fulham’s Sasa Lukic was able to bypass the Chelsea centre-back and create the opportunity for Muniz’s winner, with Deeney pointing to Colwill’s lack of effort to recover.

“It’s so poor from Chelsea defensively,” Deeney said. “Levi Colwill doesn’t even break into a sprint and has no desire to get back.”

The former Premier League striker and now football pundit also praised Fulham’s execution in the build-up to the goal.

“It is well played from Fulham. They’ve planned for this and he’s got the goal,” Deeney added.

The defeat raises further concerns about Chelsea’s defensive lapses in key moments, with Colwill’s performance likely to come under scrutiny from manager Enzo Maresca ahead of their next fixture.
